Stories of the National Fire Plan (Fire Chronicles) |
| Purpose: |
The Fire Chronicle is a short newsletter, posted about once per month, with stories and observations about implementation of the National Fire Plan. Experience with wildfire and fire prevention is accumulating in the western United States, and stories are emerging about the effects of the National Fire Plan on forests, and the ecological and human communities they support. The Fire Chronicle documents what is happening on the ground and is a source of information about fire plan implementation.
The first issue of the Fire Chronicle was published in October 2000. In April 2004, the Fire Chronicle summarized a new “State of the National Fire Plan” report that evaluated the fire plan from the perspective of rural, forest communities. Other recent issues have covered fire regime condition class, fuel reduction treatments in ponderosa pine forests, and salvage of pinyon pine after beetle infestation. |
