| Purpose: | ARACHNOLOGY ----------- This list was created for the discussion of any topic of interest to those who study arachnids. For the near future we envision that its primary focus will be the creation of arachnological databases on the Internet. No one is allowed to directly advertise on the list. Persons who wish to announce the availablility of materials or services for scientific or educational purposes can write to the list administrator, and at the administrator's discretion these materials/services will be posted in the For Sale sections of the WWW home page, and announced with a brief post on the list. Members may make requests to the list for scientific/educational materials/services, but any responses must go to the person making the request and not to the whole list. Please note in particular that posts concerning the buying and selling, (as well as most posts concerning the care and feeding) of pet arachnids should be directed not to our list, but to the arachnid mailing list (majordomo@bga.com). We suggest that potential contributors of posts also keep in mind the existence of other mailing lists devoted to acarology, entomology (in the broad sense that seems to include most land arthropods), systematics/ phylogenetic computer databases, and the maintenance of natural history collections. IMPORTANT TIPS FOR AVOIDING OFFENDING OTHER MEMBERS OF THE LIST AND OTHERWISE USING LISTS EFFECTIVELY: Send subscribe, unsubscribe, etc. commands to the *listserver* address. DO NOT send such commands to the *list* address (they will not work and, on this list, are forwarded to the overworked list administrator). Another easy to make, and often very embarrassing mistake is to use the reply function of your mailing program to answer a post and thereby send TO THE ENTIRE LIST what was intended to be a personal message to just the sender of the post. NOTE that MOST MODERN EMAIL HANDLING PROGRAMS will save you from this |
